Pilot Completed for MyEd Notifications

The Notifications Service recently completed the pilot for delivering exam related notifications to students in MyEd.

The notifications, which will soon be available for all students, provide information regarding their exam times and locations. Additionally, these will provide students with updates regarding any changes to the date and time of any exam they have. The notification appears at the top right-hand-side of MyEd for every student. The notifications are launched simultaneously with the scheduling assistant in Office365, and disappear on MyEd once the exams are finished.

The inspiration behind this work came from student feedback collated during project workshops to better understand what content students would expect to see in personalised notifications within MyEd.

The pilot for the notification tool begun in late November, in a joint effort with the School of Divinity two weeks before the school’s scheduled exams. With the pilot coming to an end, the Service is focusing on gathering feedback from both Students and Staff within the School of Divinity. The Notifications Services aims to analyse this feedback and are hopeful in implementing any improvements in early 2019. They will subsequently be launched as part of a rollout towards the new MyEd.

Some positive feedback received from the students involved with the pilot when asked what they liked about the notifications include:

“They were noticeable, not hidden, and avoided clicking through multiple screens to access.”

“That a reminder does exist on a personal platform.”

“All the information personalised and available quite easily.”
