Student Panel

The University is constantly striving to improve student experience, and the Panel gives students the opportunity to shape this process through feedback and review.

Students have fed back that they receive too many surveys, therefore we created  the Student Panel to reduce the number of surveys all students receive.

Panel members are engaged students who want to help to shape student experience. As a panel member you will have the opportunity to feedback on a range of topics from what marketing materials should look like, to what a new service should be called. You are invited to complete online questionnaires and also to participate in focus groups and interviews.

All the Panel activities are voluntary – you can choose whether or not you want to participate in any of the tasks.

The Panel also aims to have a membership of students from across the University that is broadly representative of the overall student population.

Why join the Student Panel?

  • You can help to shape the student experience for existing and prospective students
  • You will have the chance to share thoughts and ideas
  • You will get the opportunity to meet a range of fellow students and staff at face-to-face events
  • The Student Panel can be a positive addition to your CV
  • You can earn incentives such as Amazon or Blackwell’s vouchers

A current member tells us about being in the Student Panel…

During my time as a member of the Student Panel, I was able to provide my opinion on the University’s initiatives through surveys and panel discussions. I provided feedback on the new COVID-19 testing project on campus that was introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic. This allowed the University to adjust and improve its plans after hearing from students like me the reasons why we may or may not prefer conducting COVID-19 testing on campus. As someone who has not participated in TestEd, I felt that I was able to express my personal thoughts in an open, transparent and constructive way. Other topics that I have been invited to comment on include how wording can better reflect and represent the University on marketing materials and the development of new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This reflects the wide variety of matters that students can get involved in regardless of their disciplines. Being a Student Panel member has led me to understand that the University prioritises the lived experience of students. Through proactively and consistently asking for the feedback and insights of students, the University can keep abreast of students’ thoughts, cater to their different needs and ultimately cultivate a better environment for its diverse student body.

Moreover, students can easily juggle their role as Student Panel members with their studies and extracurricular activities. To share their thoughts, they may simply complete online surveys and they have the liberty to decide what focus groups to participate in. Hence, it is an easy and efficient way for students to provide their voices.
