Professor Edwin van Beek provided evidence for a recently published government report on lung cancer. Professor Edwin van Beek will also lead on a forthcoming lung cancer screening study at the Edinburgh Imaging facilities.

Report on lung cancer screening

“Lung Cancer Recovery After COVID”, is a report published on 30th November 2021, by the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Respiratory Health at the Westminster Parliament.

The report discusses developing a way forward for lung cancer diagnosis & included input from Professor Edwin van Beek, SINAPSE Chair of Clinical Radiology.

The report will likely feature in the planning of lung cancer services in the devolved nations, including Scotland.

Lung cancer screening trial

Professor Edwin van Beek is also involved in an upcoming computed tomography (CT) lung cancer screening trial, LUNGSCOT, which is sponsored by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO). This study will test lung cancer screening accessibility by patients most at risk of developing lung cancer.

Professor David Weller leads the LUNGSCOT trial. The CT scanning will take place at the Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI.
