Advanced Care Research Centre

Academy 2023 PhD applications now open

The Advanced Care Research Centre (ACRC) Academy for Training and Leadership has opened PhD applications for their 2023 cohort.

ACRC Academy 2022 cohort

The fully-funded four year programme was created to train the next generation of leaders in advanced care.

The Academy is currently advertising eighteen PhD projects, spanning disciplines from engineering and biology to informatics, social sciences, and business. All are interdisciplinary, with supervisors from two or more colleges, in line with the Academy’s aim to produce graduates who can work across the spectrum of advanced care. Between ten and twelve students will form the 2023 cohort.

Throughout the training year, the cohort will be exposed to a breadth of perspectives and motivations as they prepare for the complexity of the sector and their future leadership roles. The teaching programme includes sessions on ageing populations, multimorbidity/frailty, healthcare and social care systems and integration, the third sector, new models/technologies and site visits. Person-centred care and health inequalities will be themes running throughout.

At the end of the first year, the students will undertake a summer project on an ageing-related topic of their choice before progressing to the research phase of their degree. This summer project will be an opportunity for the students to practice their research and presentation skills in a poster session attended by a variety of key stakeholders and academics from across the advanced care sector.
