Get ready for University
As you prepare for the start of university, you will need to do some essential tasks including arranging your accommodation, getting connected to your student email, and browsing optional courses for your personal timetable.
From the time you make your application and right up to your start date with us, you will be provided with useful and detailed information about what you need to do to help you to prepare to become a student.
This includes lots of helpful resources, access to support networks (including live Q&A sessions), and guidance in the lead-up to you starting your journey at the University of Edinburgh.
From June onwards, the New Students Website will have all the information and resources you'll need to get ready for starting university. We recommend that you bookmark and regularly visit this website to discover everything you need to know in the run-up to your start date.

New Student Facebook Group
The official Facebook group is for all applicants and offer-holders in the academic year 2024/2025. Joining the group is a great way to:

- Feel a part of the University community before you start your student life here! We welcome everyone's participation and are happy to guide you through everything you need to know before you start
Top 6 Tasks
Your Top 6 Tasks are the essential tasks you need to do in order to become a student. We recommend you start to read the top 6 tasks information in June/July.
We will give you easy step-by-step instructions to ensure you have everything set up before you start. You will be able to start many of the tasks from July/August and then complete them all when you start your studies.

The 'New Students Guide' on the University of Edinburgh Events app contains all of the information you need to know to get started as a new student. You will find a handy checklist of important tasks, as well as guides, useful resources, tips, and information on topics such as:

Check your app in August for access to a full schedule of events and activities taking place from Welcome Week onwards. At this point you can start planning your first few weeks!
'How to' Sessions
Our short, online 'How to' Sessions are a fantastic opportunity to learn about the practicalities of getting started at university and get answers to any specific questions you have. Hear from staff across the University who'll be sharing their expertise to help you get off to a successful start. Sessions from previous years included:

- How to get involved with societies
- How to access library resources
Further information and booking details will be announced well in advance of the sessions, so you'll have plenty of time to decide what you'd like to attend!
Some further tips to help you get ready
Read all of your emails... As you approach your start date, the University will contact you using both the email address that you applied with, as well as your new University email address. Make sure you read your emails so you don't miss out on key information from the University.
Start preparing as early as you can... Once you have accepted your offer to study with us, you can and should think of yourself as a current student at the University of Edinburgh. Make sure you engage with what’s going on, check out the student news, social media channels, and our online events.
