Why did you choose the University of Edinburgh?

Simply put, I wanted to attend Edinburgh as I was aware of its reputation as one of the best universities in the world. In addition, I knew that Edinburgh has one of the largest Asset Management centres in Europe outside London and that being integrated in the city alongside major employers would help when it came to applying for graduate jobs. Aside from these reasons, I simply love the city! Its romanticism, history and the high standard of living all contributed to a belief and vision that I could built a life for myself and that’s what I ultimately did over my four years.

My time at university was certainly memorable and I would love to relive the experience. Highlights include attending a funded summer school in Shanghai where I learned of a new culture, attempted to learn a new language and made friends for life.

Following graduation, I interned at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management on their African desk, after which I took some time off and volunteered in Kenya and travelled. Following this I joined C. Hoare & Co. as a graduate where, after completion of the scheme, I moved to UBS where I now work in their wealth management division as a client advisor.

Edinburgh provides all the necessary platforms to excel both academically and professionally, however it is ultimately the responsibility of the student to utilise the resources of the University. The academic resources are fantastic and if it wasn’t for the support and encouragement I received from my professors I doubt I would have achieved first class honours. Likewise, the student societies provide the perfect opportunity for students to go out to network and meet with prospective employers who recruit from Edinburgh.
