European Alumni Round-Up

June was a busy month for our European alumni with events taking place in Berlin, Brussels and Munich.

Scottish Independence Lecture Berlin

Professor Charlie Jeffery

In Berlin, Professor Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Principal Policy and Impact and Director of the School of Government, delivered a thought-provoking lecture entitled, ‘Is the UK Falling Apart? Scotland and the Future of the Union’.

Following the lecture, alumni took part in a lively Q&A session, teasing out the issues and implications of the upcoming Scottish Referendum.

Following the academic part of the evening, alumni continued the debate over a glass of wine at a nearby hotel.

League of European Research Universities Alumni Event

Herman Van Rompuy

We were delighted to take part in our first League of European Research Universities (LERU) in Brussels earlier this month.

Over 150 alumni, along with representatives from 12 LERU institutions, got together for this exclusive event the Flemish Parliament to hear a talk from Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. Alumni then had the opportunity to network and socialise in the lovely Zuilenzaal room of the Parliament.

LERU is an association of twenty-one leading research-intensive universities that share the values of high-quality teaching within an environment of internationally competitive research. For more information please follow the link below.

First Alumni Gathering in Munich

Thanks to 2011 graduate Andreas Miyakis, we had our first alumni get-together in Munich when sixteen alumni joined Andreas for an informal gathering at a local bar. The evening was enjoyed by all and a second event is being planned.
