An energetic, enthusiastic, post-doctoral research fellow, with experience in complex neuroimaging clinical studies, is required to run MRI studies in SVDs@Target, a major EU Horizon2020-funded programme to determine mechanisms of cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), a major cause of stroke and dementia. The University of Edinburgh leads (i) INVESTIGATE-SVDs, a multi-centre, MRI study of blood-brain barrier, cerebrovascular function and blood pressure and participates in (ii) TREAT-SVDs, a multi-centre trial of SVD treatment.
This three year post is funded to provide MRI and image analysis expertise for in vivo human neuroimaging studies on cerebral small vessel disease. The post-holder will have day-to-day responsibility for implementation, monitoring and analysis of advanced 3T MR imaging, including diffusion tensor and structural MR imaging in addition to the above methods. There is excellent opportunity to gain advanced neuroimaging research experience and, if desired, assist in cognitive and physiological testing of patients and project management. The fellow will work closely with clinicians, MRI physicists and image analysts in the Brain Research Imaging Centre, Edinburgh, collaborating with researchers at four European partner Universities, while benefitting from the extensive academic imaging and career development opportunities of Edinburgh Imaging. The research fellow will be able to develop their research interests in structural and dynamic neuroimaging methods. Depending on their background and interests, additional components may include patient assessments including cognitive testing, and physiological tests (peripheral pulse wave analysis and carotid Doppler ultrasound scanning).
The research fellow will be based in Neuroimaging Sciences, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, within a team of clinicians, physicists and image analysis experts. The post holder will also gain considerable experience on imaging from participation in Edinburgh Imaging, which provides imaging expertise, training and facilities, including 1.5T MR, 3T MR (2), PET-CT (2) and PET-MR scanners, and on cerebrovascular disease from interaction with the six other expert European Centres in SVDs@Target.
Salary UE07 - £31,342 - £37,394
