Malaysia

Undergraduate entry requirements for applicants from Malaysia.

We accept a wide range of UK and international qualifications for entry to our undergraduate degree programmes including A Levels, the International Baccalaureate and local qualifications.

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)

Applicants to any of our degree programmes are expected to achieve the specified grades in three STPM’s, with the exception of Medicine/Vet Medicine. Some degrees have specific subject and grade requirements. STPMs are considered equivalent to A levels on a grade for grade basis.

Vet Medicine

Applicants to Vet Medicine with STPM must have a minimum of AAA in Chemistry, Biology and one other subject approved for entry to the veterinary degree programme. 

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM / Certificate of Education)

The SPM is acceptable at grades A+ to C in lieu of GCSE on a subject for subject basis, with the exception of English.

Applicants will need to provide alternative evidence of English language proficiency. Please see the English language requirement webpages for further details.

Certificate of the Unified Examination of the Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (UEC)

The UEC (Senior Middle Level) is considered for entry to year 1, at Grades A1 to B3. We require a minimum of 5 subjects (excluding Chinese Language, Malay, Book Keeping and Accounts and Commerce) Students will also need to provide evidence of English language proficiency (UEC English is not suitable). For entry to the College of Science and Engineering, applications will be considered with a minimum of 5 subjects at AAABB-AAAAA (with subject exceptions as noted above) More competitive programmes may require higher grades. Pease see the degree finder for subject specific requirements.

For entry to the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, please note the UEC is not acceptable for entry to MBChB Medicine and BVM&S Veterinary Medicine. For entry to Biomedical Science programmes, applications will be considered with a minimum of AAABB (to include Biology and Chemistry) (with subject exceptions as noted above) Please see the degree finder for subject specific requirements.

For entry to the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, applications will be considered with a minimum of 5 subjects at AAABB-AAAAA (with subject exceptions as noted above) Please see the degree finder for subject specific requirements.

Malaysian Matrikulasi

The Malaysian Matriculation will be considered for year one entry to all courses except MBChB Medicine and BVM&S Veterinary Medicine.

The equivalencies of the A Level requirements listed on the degree finder are as follows:

ABB  equivalent to GPA 3.2
AAB equivalent to GPA 3.3
AAA equivalent to GPA 3.4
A*AA   equivalent to GPA 3.5
A*A*A  equivalent to GPA 3.7
A*A*A* equivalent to GPA 3.9

Malaysian Certificates/Diplomas

College / Institute / Polytechnic Certificates/Diplomas (2 or 3 years post-SPM) are not a formal route to entry to the University but will be considered on a case by case basis.

Other qualifications we accept:

Applicants with qualifications other than those listed above will usually be required to complete a Foundation Year before entering the University.
