Undergraduate entry requirements for applicants from Japan.
All subjects (except applicants to the College of Science and Engineering)
The Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho or Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate is not sufficient for direct entry for undergraduate study at the University of Edinburgh.
You will be required to complete an appropriate Foundation Year.
Applicants who have taken the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, A-Levels or US qualifications (SAT and AP), will be able to apply for undergraduate study.
College of Science and Engineering
Applicants who have completed the Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate) with an average of 4/5 including required subjects, will be considered for entry on successful completion of internal admissions tests. A suitable English Language certificate is also required.

Applicants with qualifications other than those listed above will usually be required to complete a Foundation Year before entering the University.

Each course may have further specific entry requirements. All applicants must meet these requirements. Staff in the Admissions Offices will be able to provide further guidance.
English Language requirements
All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of English language competency, regardless of their nationality or country of residence. These requirements are listed by programme.
