Tissue Repair Postgraduate Training Programme

Congratulations to Lizi Hegarty on receipt of a Tissue Repair Small Research Grant Award

Lizi Hegarty has been awarded Tissue Repair Small Research Grant to investigate colonic macrophages in the context of stroke.

Tissue Repair student Lizi Hegarty has been awarded a Tissue Repair Small Research Grant Award of £4500 for her proposed project ‘Single cell RNA-seq analysis of the colonic monocyte-macrophage compartment in the context of stroke’.

Lizi is a second year PhD student in the Bain lab at the Centre for Inflammation Research. The proposed work on neuro/stroke immunology will complement Lizi’s ongoing research investigating intestinal macrophage subsets in health, inflammation and repair.

The project will start addressing the question of how stroke could lead to changes in the gut macrophage compartment, with a special focus on gut macrophage heterogeneity, looking at whether stroke may have distinct effects on anatomically discrete macrophage subsets.
