Western General Hospital Library to move
WGH Library will open in the Medical Education Centre on 10 September 2019
In early September the Western General Hospital Library is moving to a new space in the Medical Education Centre on the 3rd floor of the Outpatients Building, from the current site on the South Corridor. The library move is part of a wider refurbishment of the Medical Education Centre.
There will be some disruption to services in preparation for the move and the days immediately after:
- In preparation for the move, some older books and journals will be moved to the University Collections Facility, on 28-30th August.
- In the week of 2 September, please be aware that some services will be reduced: library card provision and interlibrary loan services will be affected.
- Catalogue records of items moved to the University Collections Facility will be updated in the week of 9 September.
- The Library will be closed on Monday 9th September, and will reopen in its new location on Tuesday 10th September.
The refurbished library space will have new furniture including improved study desks with power and USB sockets, fantastic views over Edinburgh, and will bring the medical library into closer proximity to related learning and teaching spaces, such as seminar rooms and computer labs.
The Library Quiet Study Room will contain University computers, at desks which can also be used as study spaces, and NHS computers. The Quiet Study Room will have out-of-hours access, an improvement on the current provision in the medical library.
