ISG student employee wins national award
Gina Maya Roberts, one of ISG’s recent interns, takes home a national award at last week’s ‘Student Employee of the Year’ ceremony.
Each year the University of Edinburgh participates in the ‘Student Employee of the Year Awards’ (SEOTY) – run by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES). The purpose of the Awards are to recognise and celebrate students who successfully combine part-time employment alongside their studies and who make an exceptional contribution to their employer. The University has seen success in previous years, with ISG student employees winning at both an institutional and regional level. This is the first time a student working in ISG has received a national award.
Gina was nominated for an award in the ‘above and beyond’ category for the work she did to support ISG’s student employment programme. However, the impact and value Gina delivered extended well beyond this. She supported the delivery of our refreshed ‘Working for the Information Services Group’ webpages and oversaw the creation of our staff ‘case study videos’. But perhaps Gina’s lasting legacy will be the one closest to her heart – representing LGBTQ+ identities in the workplace. Gina organised an ‘equality and diversity’ photoshoot, which involved recruiting LGBTQI+ staff and students to feature in a series of professional photographs to more accurately reflect diverse identities at the University. These photographs are used across the University today.
We are delighted Gina has been recognised for her achievements. We would also like to congratulate the other students who were successful in receiving an Award at institutional and regional level. Finally a massive ‘thank you’ to all the student employees working in ISG – they are an integral part of our workforce and help inform, enhance and deliver our services.
