Advancing drug discovery through high-content phenotypic and pathway profiling technologies

Research in a Nutshell

Portrait of Neil Carragher
Professor Neil Carragher - Professor of Drug Discovery

Our research is focussed on innovating the drug discovery process through the advancement of cell-based assay screening technologies including development and application of automated multiparametric high content imaging integrated with machine learning workflows to classify cell phenotypes and drug mechanisms of action. Our lab also utilises transcriptomic and post-translational pathway profiling technologies such as NanoString and Reverse Phase Protein Array to understand disease evolution and drug mechanism of action at the dynamic pathway network level. Working in close collaboration with several pharmaceutical industry partners and academic groups we apply these approaches across several stages of the drug discovery process to: elucidate new therapeutic targets, identify hit molecules, advance small-molecule lead generation, classify compound mechanism of action (MOA), identify biomarker and drug combination hypotheses to inform clinical trial design.
