School of History, Classics & Archaeology

Virtual open day for new online MSc History programme

A virtual ‘open day’ will be held, 3-4pm, Saturday 20 April, for distance learners interested in the new online MSc History programme, due to be launched this September (2013), by the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, University of Edinburgh.

The interactive session will be hosted online by Dr David Kaufman, Programme Co-director of the MSc.

Participants will be able to see and hear Dr Kaufman, ask him questions via text chat or speak to him directly using Blackboard Collaborate, the virtual classroom which will be used to deliver the course.

The ‘open day’ will feature Dr Kaufman providing a short introduction to the MSc History programme and the range of library and support services available, before inviting questions in an open question and answer session.

Tradition of excellence and innovation

Fellow Programme Co-director, Dr Enda Delaney, says:

“History has been studied at the University of Edinburgh since its foundation in 1583 but the tradition of distinction really started with William Robertson, a leading scholar of the Scottish Enlightenment, who became Principal in 1762 and later, Historiographer Royal.

“Two hundred and fifty years on, we are using 21st century technology to offer a top-class postgraduate degree through distance learning.

“This is the only history programme of its kind currently offered by a world-class, ancient university.”

A further open day will take place, 29 May 2013. Bookings will be available after the April open day has taken place.
