05 May 22. Edinburgh Imaging’s weekend at Firbush

Edinburgh Imaging staff and students recently spent a weekend at Firbush, the University of Edinburgh's Outdoor Centre on Loch Tay.

Recently, sixteen Edinburgh Imaging staff and students spent an activity filled weekend at Firbush, the University of Edinburgh's Outdoor Centre on Loch Tay.

Edinburgh Imaging members have been enjoying Firbush for many years now, but due to Covid-19 they haven't been able to visit for the past three years.

In fabulous weather the group enjoyed:

• sailing
• paddle boarding
• kayaking
• mountain biking
• swimming
• orienteering
• and hillwalking, with some of the group summiting their first Munro

There was also time for relaxation and a pleasant evening was spent taking in a beautiful sunset by a campfire on the banks of the loch.

Gayle Barclay, Senior Research MR Radiographer at the Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE, summarises their time at Firbush.

“Whilst part of the group headed out for a day’s walking on a tough route up Ben Lawyers, some of us stayed on site and enjoyed a morning sailing and then an afternoon of kayaking in amazing weather for April.

After dinner we had a wonderful evening sitting by the loch enjoying a few drinks round the campfire and watching a magical sunset.

The next day the whole group went out together for a paddle on the loch on kayaks or paddleboards. This was followed by some fun paddling games in the harbour area where everyone ended up having a dip!!

The final afternoon was a choice of mountain biking, orienteering or for some a bit of relaxation by the Loch.

Trips to Firbush are always great fun but I think this year was particularly appreciated after not being able to come for 3 years. It was also great to spend some time with people who I have hardly had a chance to get together with in recent times due to Covid restrictions.

Trips to Firbush are brilliant for team building as well as being fantastic fun. We have already booked up for next year!!”
