30 Aug 22. Online learning: Image Interpretation & Evaluation

Image interpretation and evaluation is an elective course in the Edinburgh Imaging Academy’s post-graduate Imaging Masters / Diploma / Certificate programme. It can also be taken not-for-credit as CPD / CME and is suitable for FRCR part 1 training.

Our online Image interpretation and evaluation (IIAE) short course teaches systematic review of images in the clinical context, to assess for both normal and abnormal findings, using:

We also include guidance on how such findings bear relevance to imaging in the clinical context.

You can download our syllabus, which includes all the learning objectives for each module and lecture, here:

We offer multiple options for studying Image interpretation and evaluation:

  • As a stand-alone course gaining University credits:

    • Starts in January / Winter / Semester 2
    • 20 University credits
  • As a stand-alone course, without University credits for CPD / CME preparation and FRCR part 1 training:
    • Starts anytime
  • As an elective embedded in one of our online degree programmes:

We asked Professor Emilio Quaia, Full Professor of Radiology, University of Padova (Italy), Honorary Fellow University of Edinburgh, and main tutor for Image interpretation and evaluation, to describe the course in more detail:

  • Who is the IIAE course aimed at?

    • The main aim of the IIAE course is to provide the basic knowledge about diagnostic imaging with particular emphasis to the right indication of each imaging technique considering patient symptoms, to the right interpretation of the diagnostic images, and to the major strengths and limitations of each imaging techniques.

  • What can you learn in the IIAE course?

    • You can learn how to interpret diagnostic images and when require the correct imaging techniques according to patient symptoms and the basic physics concepts of diagnostic imaging.

  • What benefits can you get from our online study options?

    • The main benefits from online study options rely on the extremely rich didactic content which is available everytime 24 hour a day and 365 days a year.

  • What outcomes / what can you expect at the end of the IIAE course?

    • The major outcomes you can expect at the end of the course is to increase the basic knowledge about diagnostic imaging, which is often limited, and to have a clear knowledge about the major indications of each diagnostic imaging technique.
