Edinburgh Imaging

16 Feb 17. Job - Radiographer superintendent

This is an excellent opportunity for a Superintendent Radiographer looking to be actively involved in MRI research imaging projects within the exciting “Edinburgh Imaging” group.

MRI Superintendent Radiographer (038753)

Edinburgh Imaging facilities (www.ed.ac.uk/edinburgh-imaging) represent a partnership between the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian, delivering high quality imaging output for research and clinical services.

This newly created University role is responsible for maintaining clinical and professional standards whilst providing comprehensive and effective day-to-day management of the radiographic service for the Edinburgh Imaging research MRI scanning facilities. The role is also central to the design, set up, ongoing support and close-out of imaging research projects funded from academic and commercial sources, plus delivery of NHS clinical services when using the Edinburgh Imaging MRI facilities at both the RIE and WGH sites.

The post holder will be involved in devising and implementing an ongoing programme of research service development and training. The role includes responsibility for the safe use and efficient performance of the MRI modalities and auxiliary equipment.

The post will be responsible for the new Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE (Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh) alongside the well-established Edinburgh Imaging Facility WGH (Western General Hospital). The post holder will be expected to spend time at each site plus other Edinburgh Imaging and related research facilities as required.

This is an exciting time for research imaging in Edinburgh. Alongside the new RIE and existing WGH facilities, the Edinburgh Imaging QMRI facility has been upgraded to now includes 3T MRI, x2 PETCT and Scotland’s only PETMR alongside Radiochemistry and Image Analysis laboratories. There is also significant development of animal imaging facilities at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush campus. Management of activity across these facilities is being integrated via Edinburgh Imaging, a virtual hub of expert medical imaging, pre-clinical imaging, neuroimaging for research and imaging science education.
