Ameen Merchant

We are very sorry to report that Ameen Merchant, who was studying History and Politics with us, died last Friday in the Western General Hospital.

Ameen had been seriously injured in a road accident in the previous week. Our heartfelt sympathies as a community go to Ameen's family and friends. Funeral prayers were said for Ameen at the Central Mosque, Potterrow, Edinburgh on Monday 8 October at 4pm.

Ameen contributed to many aspects of the life of the School and University, and his loss will be very widely and painfully felt. Mrs Merchant has particularly asked me to underline the School's message concerning the availability of support and counselling. Should anyone amongst Ameen's large group of friends in the School and University require support at this difficult time, please do speak with your Personal Tutor or one of our Student Support Officers.

Again, our deepest sympathies go to Ameen's family and friends.

Every good wish, Alvin Jackson.

Alvin Jackson,

Sir Richard Lodge Professor of History & Head of School, School of History, Classics & Archaeology, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh EH8 9AG.
