Professor Alvin Jackson has been speaking about the future shape of the United Kingdom in the aftermath of Brexit as part of Mount Stewart Conversations Festival, held in County Down, Northern Ireland. (Published 11 Oct 2016)

Professor Alvin Jackson, Richard Lodge Professor of History in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, has been speaking about the future shape of the United Kingdom in the aftermath of Brexit. As part of this year’s Mount Stewart Conversations Festival Professor Jackson was part of a panel which also included Jonathan Powell, former Prime Minister Tony Blair's Chief of Staff, and the Irish Times literary editor, Fintan O'Toole.

One of the best attended events, ‘Can the Kingdom Stay United After Brexit?’ was a lively seventy-five minutes of debate and discussion on how the UK government has found itself exiting Europe. Subjects ranged from whether the vote was ‘anti-Irish’ to how a realistic border might work between Northern Ireland and the Republic, to whether Brexit will actually happen. You can watch the event on YouTube (below).
