Dr Siobhan Talbott awarded the Senior Hume Brown Prize in Scottish History

Dr Talbott has been awarded the prestigious award for best first book of Scottish History, published 2014 or 2015, as judged by the Chairs of Scottish History at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. (Published 22 Nov, 2016)

Dr Siobhan Talbott's Commerce and Franco-Scottish Relations, 1560–1713 is the winner of the Hume Brown Prize for 2016. The prize is awarded every two years for the best book on Scottish History by a first-time author who is also a graduate of a Scottish university, and is worth £4,500. The book is part of Pickering & Chatto’s Perspectives in Economic and Social History Series.

The judges, Professor Ewen Cameron of the University of Edinburgh and Professor Dauvit Broun of the University of Glasgow, were impressed by the international and transnational nature of the work, the outstanding range of sources analysed and the clarity of the argument.

Professor Cameron said, ‘Dr Talbott has illuminated the world of Franco-Scottish connections in her highly original and important study.’

Dr Talbott is a Lecturer in Early Modern History at Keele University. Following a first class MA (Hons) in 2006, an MLitt with Distinction in Reformation Studies in 2007, and a PhD in 2010, all from the University of St Andrews, she held an Economic History Society postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. Thereafter she spent nearly four years at the University of Manchester, first as a Research Associate, and later as Hallsworth Research Fellow in Political Economy.
