Introduction to Postgraduate Research

What does it include?

This new online event is a valuable opportunity to hear from staff and current students about what it's like to pursue a PhD with us. We will give you insight into the application process, student life, fees and funding. Even if you have already applied for a research programme, you will find these sessions useful. 

June 2024 event schedule

Time Session Title Session Description
10:00am-11:00am (local UK time) What is a PhD and How to Apply This session, delivered by the Doctoral College, will outline what a PhD degree is for and where it might lead. We will help you understand what the transition from undergraduate or masters degree to research degree might entail and also how it can be done if you have been out of formal education. We will look at the application process such as finding a supervisor, applying on-line and tips to write a good application.
12:30pm-1:30pm (local UK time) Ask our Students: Panel Discussion Current Postgraduate Research students and recent graduates will take centre stage to share their particular experiences, ready to answer any questions you may have about postgraduate researcher life.
3:00pm-4:00pm (local UK time) Applying for PhD Funding This session will briefly outline funding available to support you financially. We will cover university scholarships and some examples of external scholarships. We will also explain what the university will provide to help you complete your degree: supervision, training, mental health and well-being support and networks. There will be short introductory talks followed by a question and answer section.
