Postgraduate Professional Development

If you’re keen to try out online study at postgraduate level without the time or financial commitment of a full Masters, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate, then one of our Postgraduate Professional Development courses could be ideal for you.

Our Postgraduate Professional Development courses are specifically designed for those who are currently working and want to progress their careers. This route enables you to take a short credit-bearing course rather than study on a full online degree programme. These courses are also delivered online so you can choose to study from anywhere in the world, whilst gaining credit from the University of Edinburgh.

Our online postgraduate programmes and courses are internationally recognised and meet the same rigorous standards as those delivered on campus. You will be taught by academics who are world-leading in their field and have access to our support services. You also become part of an online community of fellow students from around the world who are studying the same course as you.

How courses work

You can take a maximum of 50 credits worth of courses over two years through our Postgraduate Development (PPD) scheme. On successful completion of the course(s), you will receive a postgraduate award of academic credit from the University. Alternatively, after one year of taking courses you can choose to transfer your credits and continue on to studying towards a higher award on a Masters, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate programme (a Masters is 180 credits, a Diploma is 120 credits and a Certificate is 60 credits). Any time spent studying PPD will be deducted from the amount of time you will have left to complete a Masters, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate programme.
