Period of study

A full masters programme delivered online normally takes about three years but some programmes offer the opportunity to study over a shorter or longer period, up to six years. Our online learning degrees offer flexible exit routes, allowing you to shape your academic journey to suit your needs.

For example, if you enrol on a masters programme but decide not to complete the full degree, your completed credits can contribute towards an alternative postgraduate qualification.

Qualifications available

Depending on your programme and on the number of credits completed, you may be able to gain the following awards:

  • Postgraduate Professional Development (PgProfDev) typically after one years' study (up to 50 credits)
  • Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) typically after one years' study or 60 credits
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) typically after two years' study or 120 credits
  • Masters degree (such as MSc, LLM) typically after three years' study or up to 180 credits

Data Skills Workforce Development courses

In addition to postgraduate degrees, we also offer a series of short, standalone courses designed to enable people to upskill or reskill in the field of digital data. Fully-funded places are available to those working, unemployed or at risk of redundancy in Scotland who meet Scottish Funding Council eligibility criteria.
