Power BI Gateway Service
An exciting new service has been added for our BI users
The Power BI Gateway Service project has completed and delivered a new service for the BI community.
The Power BI Data Gateway is an agent, installed within our network, which securely handles data connectivity and data transfer between on-premises data sources and cloud services.
The gateway is required for the following Power BI activities:
- Scheduled data refresh for on-premises datasets imported to the Power BI Service
- Use of DirectQuery to query data from the Power BI Service
- Use of Analysis Services Live Connections to query data from the Power BI Service
In addition to handling data scheduling and communications, the gateway handles encryption/decryption, as well as compression of data transmissions.
If your dashboard or visualisations need regular data refresh then consider using the Power BI Gateway.
