CMVM Research Computing Overview

The College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine Research Computing Induction project has delivered a new course in Learn.

It is available (online from any device) to researchers to help them get to grips with the many options for research computing that are available to support their research.

This course gives an overview of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine’s (CMVM) key computing resources, organised by research lifecycle stage, and some helpful general information, tips and links to further help. This course will be useful for all new recruits, and may be a helpful overview and refresher to those already using some of these resources as the latest offerings are included.

When launching, given the Covid-19 context, the project highlighted the resources in the “Plan and Design” and “Organise and Store” stages, which can be used to enable remote working with research data.

This course was developed for CMVM researchers but as the majority of the material (over 95%) is relevant to all researchers at the University; the course is open to all three Colleges.

The Institute for Academic Development and the College’s HR team will be promoting this overview course to researchers, and the Research Facilitator has additionally created a new CMVM Research Computing Overview resource page, which will help the content to be found more easily.

I’m delighted that this resource is now available to help all researchers in CMVM understand the fantastic IT ecosystem that is available to support their research, and to help enable them to take advantage of it. I’d also like to thank the team who worked very effectively together to deliver this in such a coherent and accessible way
