Usher Institute

Congratulations to Professor Liz Grant

Many congratulations to our newly appointed Professor, Liz Grant, who has been awarded a Personal Chair in Global Health and Development.

Professor Liz Grant

A Personal Chair is the highest mark of distinction for the advancement of an academic discipline, the University and student education. Amongst a long list of essential criteria to be met is ‘sustained achievement of the highest distinction’ and ‘sustained recognition in an international context’.

Professor Liz Grant is Director of the University of Edinburgh’s Global Health Academy, Assistant Principal - Global Health, and Programme Co-Director on a number of online postgraduate taught programmes within the Usher Institute (MSc Global eHealth, Global Health Challenges and Master of Family Medicine).

It is an honour to be awarded this chair. It has been a wonderful few years working alongside so many people in the Usher Institute and across the University who believe that global health matters because global health issues are everywhere.  We all contribute to the healthiness of this world in multiple ways, and we have a shared  responsibility to improve health, especially for those who are disadvantaged. Global Health can be the lens through which we can hope for a  world where there is no “us” and “them”.  Still a far off dream, but our amazing student body can be the people who bring about this change.

Professor Liz Grant

Many congratulations to Liz for this achievement which recognises all her work in this field and her leadership within the University, including as Director of the Global Health Academy.
