John P Mackintosh Memorial Lecture Series

An annual lecture series honouring the memory of the late professor, politician, writer and proponent of Scottish devolution.

John Mackintosh was a Labour member of the UK Parliament who advocated Scottish devolution, as well as a respected academic teacher and prolific writer. At the time of his death in 1978, at the age of 48, he held the Chair of Politics at the University of Edinburgh and simultaneously was a member of Parliament for the neighbouring Constituency of Berwick and East Lothian. As a token of respect, John’s friends and colleagues from both the political and academic spheres joined to institute a series of public lectures in his honour.

Since 1980 the John P Mackintosh Memorial Lecture Series has attracted a number of prominent public figures from the international scene.
