Access to the Professions (with Reach: Scotland) works with eligible school pupils interested in the high demand professional areas of Law, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
Access to the Professions is run in collaboration with Reach: Scotland, a project managed by five universities throughout Scotland (the University of Aberdeen; the University of Dundee; the University of Edinburgh; the University of Glasgow; and the University of St Andrews), and funded by the Scottish Funding Council. The University of Edinburgh is responsible for the delivery of Reach in the south east of Scotland.
Access to the Professions is a merger of two successful projects (Pathways to the Professions and Reach: Edinburgh) and provides information and support for eligible state school pupils who are considering careers in the high demand professional areas of Law, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine.
Who Do We Work With?
We work with all interested pupils (S4 to S6) in 41 target schools across Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Scottish Borders and Forth Valley: target schools are those with an average progression rate to Higher Education of less than 35%.
Pupils from non-target state schools in theses areas who meet any of the criteria below are also able to join the project:
- Care experienced; and / or
- Live in a postcode area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20); and / or
- Young Carer (by this we mean a young person who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.)
