Blogger Mothers, Voice and Translation

Dr Susam-Saraeva's focused on how blogging women, especially blogger mothers in Turkey, use their writing practices to approach their lives, subjectivities and experiences and how they intertwine their own voices with those of foreign experts through various forms of translation for strategic purpose. The frequent recourse to foreign sources found in these blogs can be interpreted as a way to professionalize and neutralize the field and to camouflage or circumvent any immediate generational conflicts the bloggers might be experiencing within their lives. The voices of the foreign experts are therefore strategically interwoven with the voice of the blogger. The talk will bring examples from these interwoven voices and will focus on the various ways translation practices emerge in these blogs.
