Women of Climate Change

Training webinar held on Earth Day to create more biographies of women on Wikipedia.

Earth Day took place on Wednesday 22nd April 2020.

Growing out of the very first Earth Day in 1970, Earth Day Network is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement. To celebrate fifty years of change, Earth Day 2020’s mission was to inspire, educate, and mobilise a new generation of environmental activists.

Laura Rose Wood, LTW’s Wikipedia Women in Red student intern, and Ewan McAndrew, Wikimedian in Residence, held an online Wikipedia editing event for Earth Day 2020 (via a Blackboard Collaborate training webinar) to highlight environmental activists and role models whose voice may not otherwise be heard.

14 editors took part to create 19 brand new articles and improve 80 more on such inspiring women as: Anna Hughes, Director of Flight Free UK and sustainable transport campaigner; Hilda Flavia Nakabuye, founder of Uganda's Fridays for Future movement and campaigner for greater gender equality and racial diversity in the climate change movement; and Ridhima Pandley, an activist from India who campaigns for action against climate change among many many more.
