An Edinburgh Model for Teaching Online

To support colleagues in the shift to teaching more of our courses in new ways for semester 1, we are partnering with the Centre for Research in Digital Education to offer a 7 week experiential training programme.

The course offers an active, research-led learning experience in a model of online teaching distilled from the current online programmes at the University of Edinburgh and drawing on a wealth of institutional expertise to help us navigate these transitions.

The course revolves around an underlying pedagogy built on three core parts:

  1. Engaged Online Teaching
  2. Engaged Learning Communities
  3. Creative and actionable feedback and assessment

This programme distils the considerable expertise of the University of Edinburgh in online education to provide an experiential learning experience that will equip participants with the ability to creatively and critically develop sustained engaged online learning and assessment. It will provide a shared foundation for staff in the development and delivery of remote, hybrid and online courses for the University of Edinburgh.  More than 70 colleagues engaged with the course in its first run in January 2020.

The course is offered online via Learn, is open to all University of Edinburgh colleagues and is available for booking now.
