Scottish Parliament Long COVID Inquiry

A full summary of EAVE II's participation in the Scottish Parliament's 2022-23 long COVID inquiry.

The EAVE II team were asked to submit and discuss preliminary results from the Long COVID project with the Scottish Parliament's COVID-19 Recovery Committee as part of their inquiry into long COVID in Scotland.

Inquiry Report

On the 26 April 2023, the COVID-19 Recovery Committee published their report for the Long COVID Inquiry. In this report, the committee makes extensive recommendations on how the Scottish Government can best support:

  1. People who are experiencing or have been impacted by long COVID;
  2. Further research into long COVID;
  3. Continued efforts to estimate the prevalence of long COVID

The report acknowledge the value of the EAVE II study and the Long COVID sub-study to the inquiry:

COVID-19 Recovery Committee Meetings

10 November 2022

On 10 November 2023, the Scottish Government COVID-19 Recovery Committee held an evidence session in which results collected by the EAVE II team were discussed. During this meeting, EAVE II / the Long COVID project were represented by Principal Investigator, Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh.

9 March 2023

On 9 March 2023, the Scottish Government COVID-19 Recovery Committee held an evidence session in which preliminary results from EAVE II's Long COVID sub-study were discussed. During this meeting, EAVE II / the Long COVID project were represented by Senior Data Analyst Professor Chris Robertson from the University of Strathclyde.

Preliminary results from the EAVE II Long COVID sub-study were discussed as part of the Scottish Parliament's COVID-19 Recovery Committee's long COVID inquiry on 9 March 2023. Scottish Parliament Members' debate 14 March 2023

On 14 March 2023, the Scottish Government held a members debate to discuss the current state of long COVID in Scotland and the practical measures being taken to better help and support those affected by long COVID. During these proceedings, preliminary findings from the EAVE II Long COVID sub-study were referenced by John Mason MSP.
