View media transcript The University of Edinburgh events App is free for all students and is available to download from the Google Play and Apple App Store. The app gives students the ability to create personalised timetables and activity planners; provides a space to connect with other students; and shows a full list of events happening on campus throughout the year. For New Students, the app is a particularly useful tool, as it provides specific guidance and task lists, and allows you to browse and book Welcome Week events. Once you have downloaded the app, search for the guide “Student Events 2025-2026” in the Find Guides section, which will set up the guidebook and save it to the app. When you open the Student Events guidebook, click the top left-hand corner, which displays a side bar of some of the key tabs. Student Chat is a public chat room where you have the option to log in and chat with other students. This monitored chat room is a safe space to connect with new students, so feel free to introduce yourself, ask a question, or answer one of the prompts posted by our admins. Remember, this is public, so make sure not to post your personal details! In the side bar, you will also find the new student task lists, which outline what you need to do before you start and what to do when you start. You'll find information such as how to register as a new student, applying for university cards and registering with a GP in Edinburgh. The app also contains useful links to the New Students Website, which will provide more details. The key app feature is the ability to browse events and personalise your own schedule, specifically during welcome week. On the side bar, you will find that the events have been separated into five separate categories, making it easier to find events relevant to your needs. This includes events run by your school, the university, the Edinburgh University Students Association, student societies, and sports clubs. To navigate each section, simply slide along the top calendar to the date you want to browse, and then scroll through the schedule. If you've found an event you want to save, you can do this by clicking on the event and then clicking the add now button at the bottom. This allows you to group all your saved events on the schedule tab. You can also download them to the calendar on your device via the download button at the top. On the event, you can also see if the event requires advanced booking, indicated by an advanced sign-up tag and sign-up link. Make sure you remember to sign up to these events before the day. Please be aware that simply saving the event to the app does not mean you've booked it. Other events run by your school are Essential to attend., indicated by a tag and the word ESSENTIAL in their event title. It is important that you plan your welcome week activities around these essential events, as attending them will give you important information about your course, and give you the opportunity to meet some of your course contacts and peers. There are so many events to choose from, so if you are looking for something in particular, try using the search function at the top of the side bar. This allows you to search for events using key words. For more information on the app, you can visit the user guidance tab at the bottom.
