University Principal prepares for Varsity

As part of University of Edinburgh’s annual welcome to its performance athletes Principal Peter Mathieson met with players from the University’s rugby clubs ahead of the Royal Bank of Scotland Scottish Varsity Matches.

Taking place on the hallowed International Pitch at BT Murrayfield on Saturday 22nd September, the fixture, which is believed to be the oldest varsity match in the world, sees the men’s and women’s teams from University of Edinburgh meet in an ancient rivalry with the University of St Andrews. Over 10,000 fans flocked to the event in 2017 and 2016 and an even larger crowd is expected to attend this year.

  • Womens kick off 2.45pm
  • Mens kick of 4.00pm

Edinburgh University Men’s Rugby Head of Performance, David Adamson, said:

It is always a privilege to be part in the Scottish Varsity Match and the whole team are delighted to once again have the opportunity to compete at BT Murrayfield.”

University of Edinburgh Head of Performance Sport and Edinburgh University Ladies’ Head of Performance, Claire Cruikshank, added:

The Scottish Varsity is one of the highlights of our year. As women’s rugby continues to go from strength to strength, both here at the University and across the country, it is fantastic to showcase the talents of both teams on the international pitch at BT Murrayfield."
