Discussing the use of animals in research

February 2019: School visit aims to get pupils talking about the use of animals in research.

The Director of Veterinary Services at the University of Edinburgh and a postdoctoral researcher from the Centre for Inflammation Research visited George Heriot's School to discuss the use of animals in research.  Following an interactive quiz and a presentation that aimed to give pupils insight into why animal research is conducted and the steps that are taken to help replace, reduce and refine the use of animals in research, pupils were encouraged to ask questions for an open discussion about both the ethics and logistics of animal research.
