School of Economics

Michael A. S. Fox

MA Economics, 2001

After leaving Edinburgh, I returned to London and took a full-time job within Morgan Stanley's Investment Banking Division where I had spent the summer as an undergraduate intern. At Morgan Stanley, I specialized in equity financing and mergers and acquisitions for financial institutions clients. In London I also became a volunteer teacher at the Butterfly Reading School and organized a charity run in Hyde Park to fund the construction of a school in Hebei, China.

I am currently an MBA student at MIT's Sloan School of Management in the US. During my MBA I have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting projects. For example, I acted as a consultant for a not-for-profit organization dedicated to children's literacy, I helped to build an MIT biotechnology start-up and I conducted a research project for the Asian Development Bank. In January 2006, I am sponsored by Microsoft and a charity to provide consultancy to two companies in Uruguay on a potential merger.

I keep in touch with my Edinburgh economics friends especially Duncan Phillips (when he is not in Tokyo issuing Samurai bonds) and Paolo Monaco (when I am in London). I also do my best to support the activities of the Edinburgh University Trading and Investment Club as an alumni advisor.

After business school, I will return to the finance world, living in New York. My other major objective for the next year or two is to become a more skillful squash player.
