Data Science Education Centre of Excellence

Recognising the need for a coordinated and collaborative approach to Data Science Education across the University in order to deliver on our Data Driven Innovation (DDI) programme requirements and beyond, we are leading on a Centre of Excellence (CoE) via the Bayes Centre for the benefit of the University. 

The Centre of Excellence provides a focal point for current and planned data science education and training across the University and will work to gain a better understanding of existing content, regulatory, software and process limitations, and planned growth in order to help quickly leverage opportunities as the University of Edinburgh develops data science activities. 

Over the coming weeks a Data Science Education CoE Strategy Group will be formed; the Group will work to identify, scope and prioritise activities and projects. Its membership will include representatives from across the University's DDI Hubs (Bayes, Edinburgh Futures Institute, Usher, Easter Bush and National Robotarium) and Skills Gateway, and will work with Schools, Colleges and University service organisational units through future workshops.

Mission Statement:

The Data Science Education Centre of Excellence (DSE CoE) is an entity which will provide leadership and coordination support for best practice and new initiatives by: 

  • Supporting proposers of ideas in converting opportunities into business plans that are workable given UoE structures 
  • Providing insight into existing capabilities and offerings to proposers 
  • Occasionally coordinate cross-University initiatives that can benefit from the networks established by the CoE
