Life in Edinburgh

What it's like to live in Edinburgh, a vibrant city with a large, international student community.

Societies and Sports Clubs

The social, sporting and cultural opportunities available to our students are excellent. Whether you make an occasional visit to the gym or compete at international level, the University offers the best in sport and exercise and has an amazing array of different sports clubs to choose from.

Additionally, within Edinburgh University Students' Association there are many societies to join, so you are sure to find one to develop your interests and meet likeminded people. You may even wish to join one of the societies related to your degree as this will be a great opportunity to become part of a community of biological sciences students.

Joining any club or society will help you to become part of a student community, bring you social benefits and boost your skill sets.

History and Culture

Edinburgh is a world heritage site, built on the remnants of an extinct volcano, Arthur's Seat, which dominates the skyline. Capital city of Scotland since the 15th century, Edinburgh has been a centre of education for centuries.

Wandering through the city's medieval streets and closes immerses you in history. You can admire the Georgian and Victorian architecture, visit one of the city's many museums, stroll up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle or climb Calton Hill which offers unrivalled views of the city.

Present day Edinburgh is a vibrant city with thriving student activities and ready access to the coast, the Scottish Highlands, and major cities across the UK.
