Further information

Provision of feedback to students is recognised as a vital component of the student learning experience and essential for improvement and development over a range of graduate skills (writing essays, compiling research reports, delivering seminars, analysing data, developing the ability to organise complex arguments etc).

Feedback is provided in a number of ways depending on the course component or activity. These include:

  • Provision of generic written feedback on examinations
  • Provision of individual feedback on essays
  • Viewing of examination scripts
  • Provision of exemplars of different types of coursework
  • Peer comparisons of work
  • Tutorials providing analysis of reports, writing style etc.

National student survey

The National student survey (NSS) polls students for their opinions on their degree experience with respect to the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.

Survey of student views

Student views on feedback have been sought by carrying out a Bristol online survey through the Biology Teaching Organisation.
