Where you will study

The Law School is based in the University's central campus in the historic Old College building.  The Law School recently underwent an extensive refurbishment transforming our premises at Old College into a 21st-century home for the School, whilst celebrating and preserving the building's heritage and history. Classes will take place across a range of buildings in the University's central campus including the Law School.

LawPALS is our Law Peer-Assisted Learning Scheme. It aims to support the academic and social transition of first-year LLB students from their prior learning into the LLB. In this video Lindsay Jack talks about the purpose and benefits of LawPALS in helping new LLB students navigate their way through their first semester.

Starting your studies at law school can be daunting. Edinburgh Law School is dedicated to ensuring that you are given the support and encouragement you need during your first year of study and beyond. In order to help smooth your transition into first year, we have LawPALS. Whether you join us from school, college, access course, employment, non-law study or from something else, you can get loads out of LawPALS.

All first-year students are automatically guaranteed access to a wealth of experience and information from advanced LLB students (Student Leaders). You will be assigned to a group, led by two Student Leaders, which meets weekly at lunchtimes in the first semester. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions that you wouldn't want to ask elsewhere, and you have a whole group of people you can meet without having to try too hard!

PALS also covers topics that match the academic timetable so you will receive student guidance in getting to grips with law study, writing legal essays, mooting, and preparing for exams - direct from students who have just been through exactly what you now face.

We run exchange schemes with partner universities in Europe, Australia, Asia, and North and South America. Living and studying abroad can broaden your horizons, enrich your learning, enhance your academic perspectives, and help make the most of your time as an undergraduate student.

Please note that all student travel to destinations will be subject to University risk assessment for approval.
