Virtual Open Day home page

This is a web page where we have curated essential web links, resources, and videos to complement the live sessions and help you make most of the day, providing the information we believe can help you make an informed decision about applying to – or accepting an offer from – the University of Edinburgh.

Participating in the sessions

Your live webinar sessions will be hosted on one of the following webinar platforms:

Camera and Microphone settings

There is no requirement for you to share your video camera image or audio with us during an event. Some sessions may allow for this feature, if you so choose, while others may simply allow you to communicate via text chat.

Getting to your next live session

If you have opened a new browser tab to participate in a session, please close that tab and return to your e-Ticket.

If you have closed this tab in your browser, you can retrieve it in the email we sent you on the day of the event.

Viewing closed captioning

Depending on the platform on which the webinar takes place, If live captions would be helpful for you, here are the available options:

There may be an option to turn on live captions and view a live caption display during live sessions simply by selecting the ‘CC’ button.

Where this option is not available, you may wish to use Google Chrome’s live captioning feature. We have included a brief video showing how to turn on this feature.

Video on how to enable Google Chrome live captions

As with all live captioning, it’s not 100% accurate but it is fairly reliable and accurate. Please note this is a tool offered through Google Chrome, not the University of Edinburgh.
