Our work on gender-based violence

About the Equally Safe Team

The Equally Safe team is a specialist staff team in the University's Wellbeing Service that offers support for anyone affected by sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence.

The Equally Safe Team is a specialist team in the University Wellbeing Service.

We understand the impact that being affected by forms of abuse can have upon your health, wellbeing, and ability to study, and we appreciate the complexities and challenges involved in seeking help. Our team is composed of experienced female specialists who can support all genders and help you navigate your recovery from a survivor-led, trauma-informed perspective.

We offer support and advice for those who have been affected by sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV). This can be current or historic, and may include one or more of the following:

  • Rape and sexual assault
  • Stalking and harassment
  • Domestic abuse and coercive controlling behaviour, which can include threats of harm and behaviours which restrict your ability to access friends/family/finances and freedom to study without fear
  • Sexual exploitation, which can include sexual voyeurism and drug/alcohol facilitated sexual abuse, as well as forced pornography and the sale and exchange of sex for money/goods
  • Online abuse, such as monitoring of social media profiles, sharing of intimate images, and using GPS locators or spyware

More broadly, the University has a range of proactive policies and dedicated services in place to raise awareness of GBV, reduce the incidence of abuse and harassment and can take appropriate action to help improve student and staff safety and wellbeing on campus.
