Our work on gender-based violence

Supporting students who report gender-based violence

Find out what you should do if a student tells you they have experienced sexual violence, relationship abuse, or other forms of gender-based violence (GBV).

These webpages contain information to help you support students who have experienced sexual violence, relationship abuse or other forms of gender-based violence.

All staff have a role to play in supporting students who make a disclosure to them. Please contact the Equally Safe Team for advice and guidance if you need it, for yourself and for any students you are supporting or concerned about.

Guidance for managing disclosures

Steps to take if you receive a disclosure of sexual violence from a student.

Indicators of gender-based violence

There may be non-verbal indicators of abuse that may alert you to someone being affected by abuse.

Escalating disclosures of gender-based violence

Following a disclosure, you can refer the student to the Equally Safe Team. Should the student not wish to be referred to the team you can contact the Equally Safe Team for advice and guidance.
