Laboratory for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis (LBEP)

Rebecca Man

PhD Student

Rebecca joined the LBEP as part of the MRC Precision Medicine DTP in September 2021. Her PhD project investigates the genetic diversity and evolution of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial co-infections in Covid-19 patients using population genomics and phylogenetics. Additionally, it investigates the impact of lateral transduction, a form of horizontal gene transfer, on the bacterial chromosome and how it influences the structure and evolution of the genome.

She studied Biology with a focus on molecular biology at University of Southampton for her undergraduate degree. Rebecca then took her master’s degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Edinburgh to continue exploring her interests in genomics and evolution via bioinformatic approaches. Her past research projects included comparative genomics involving plants and canines.
