Ivan Pocrnic
Core Scientist
Moved to career track fellow position at the Roslin Institute
Research at the Highlander Lab
My main research interest is in the development of novel breeding methodologies and tools. This work involves a synergy between theoretical, quantitative genetics and practical animal breeding.
Ongoing research:
- Optimisation of long-term selection in layer chickens
- Role of dominance in optimal contribution selection
- Impact of mitochondrial genome on milk production traits in cattle
- Development and optimisation of scalable genomic evaluation models
Background
Before taking a post at the Roslin Institute with Gregor Gorjanc, I have been a postdoc with Ignacy Misztal at the University of Georgia, US, where I also obtained my PhD. My main expertise is the application of genomic selection on big datasets for various species (pig, chicken, cattle, etc.) and various models, with emphasis on single-step genomic prediction. Previously, I worked at the Croatian department for breeding value estimation and obtained an MSc in Animal Genetics and Breeding, and BSc in Agricultural Economics at the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
