Bovine TB Diagnostics

Developing novel diagnostic tools for tuberculosis.

Improved diagnosis of TB in humans and cattle will lead to reduction in the prevalence of disease. This team aims to develop a point-of-care diagnostic for bovine TB using samples from experimental and field infected cattle. The goal is to devise a lateral flow assay that can be used cheaply and simply in the field without the need for a veterinarian visit.

We will use extensive knowledge from human studies to guide selection of the serum components for which to test initially but will also include novel aspects for the bovine as required.

This is a joint PhD project with the University of Leiden funded for three years from February 2020.
