How to use the NEC G-Series handset.

Turning the handset on/off

Press and hold the RED phone (on hook/clear/power) key for a few seconds.

Locking/unlocking the handset

In idle mode (no active calls or other functions):

LOCKING - Press OK then the LOCK softkey.
UNLOCKING - Press OK then the UNLOCK softkey.

Answering a call

Press the GREEN phone key (Off hook).

Ending a call

Press the RED phone (on hook/clear/power) key.

Making a call

Type the required number.
Press the GREEN phone key (Off hook).

Loudspeaking mode

During a call, press the SPK ON softkey.
To deactivate press the SPK OFF softkey.

Muting a call

During a call, press the MUTE softkey.
To reactivate the microphone, press the UNMUTE softkey.

Adjusting volume

During a call, press the volume up or volume down buttons on the left side of the phone.

Consultation calls

During a call press the GREEN phone key.
Dial the number of the party you wish to consult and talk to this party.
You can toggle between the two parties by pressing the GREEN phone key.

Transferring a call

During a call ask the connected party to hold.
Press the GREEN phone key.
Dial the number you wish to transfer the call to and wait for them to answer.
Press the RED phone key to transfer the call.

Diverting incoming calls

To set:

Press the GREEN phone key.
Dial *21 followed by either the 6 digit University extension (517000 for voicemail) or 9 followed by the external number.
Press the RED phone key.

To cancel:

Press the GREEN phone key.
Dial #21.
Press the RED phone key.

Listening to voicemail messages

Relevant to University voicemail subscribers only. If you are not yet a subscriber, guidelines are online at the link below:

University voicemail

In idle mode, press the Menu softkey.
Select Messaging, Inbox and the Listen to voicemail.

NB - If the number displayed under the Listen to voicemail option is not 517000 then you will need to change this first.

Creating a shortcut

In idle mode, press the Menu softkey.
Select Settings, General and then Shortcuts.
This will allow you to assign a function to one of the navigational keys.

Creating a contact

In idle mode, press the Menu softkey.
Select Settings then New Contact.
Press the Add softkey and you will then be prompted to enter the number.
Press the Save softkey and you will then be prompted to enter the name.
Press the Save softkey again and you will then be prompted to confirm the details.

Creating a speed dial

In idle mode, press the Menu softkey.
Select Contacts.
Select the contact you want to assign and press the More softkey.
Choose Speed dial and press OK.
Scroll to the speed dialling key number that you want and press the Add or Replace softkey.

To use the speed dial(s) you have programmed, press and hold the relevant number on the keypad.
