Using Our Equipment

Guidelines and information about training requests, health and safety, charges and usage.

Guidelines:

Users must have their own risk assessments for work in the facility and must have read the facility risk assessments found on Q-Pulse. Risk assessment templates can also be found on Q-Pulse or requested from the AIR team. The AIR is a laboratory space and we expect our users to adhere to good laboratory practise while using our equipment and to follow our fair usage policy. The AIR does not store research data, in line with our data governance policy. If you are internal to the University of Edinburgh please contact your local IS team for support with data. If you require more detailed information about the equipment, costs and technical capabilities please visit www.igmmimaging.com.

Training Requests

The AIR works core hours 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Out of hours assistance is available in advance at request.

Facility users need to be trained on each new modality they use. For instance, if you are already trained to use an upright epifluorescent microscope (e.g. Britemac) you don't need training to use another one (e.g. Macred). You will need training to use a confocal. Please request training via PPMS. The AIR staff are employed to support AIR equipment. We can, at our discretion, advise about non-AIR equipment but are not obliged to provide support. The workshop are able to provide support for equipment repairs and can be contacted via this form.

If you are new to the AIR email us to discuss your requirements further.

Access Charges

The AIR is an open access facility, we welcome all users from the University of Edinburgh, other academic institutions and business. University of Edinburgh staff and students may refer to the costs document.

If you are from another academic institution and are using ESRIC equipment, please see this webpage.

Please dircet all industry enquiries to Sarah Trewick, Business Development Manager.
