Equipment loans
Our kits can be collected from the Main Library Helpdesk in George Square. All bookings must be made through the Learning Spaces Technology team's central booking system, which can be found at the following link. To find the DIY Film School equipment, you can click Sign In to view he full catalogue, then click Book, choose What? (or When? to select your booking date first) and select DIY Film School from the list.
Exclusively "bring your own device"
All of our equipment is offered on a 'bring your own device' basis.
We do not have phones or tablets available to lend, you must use your own device.
Kits AvailableOur kits are adjustable so they can fit phones of any make and size. The main part of these are a 'grip' that allows your phone to be mounted on a tripod, offer stability while shooting 'hand-held', and are ready to add lights, microphones, and other accessories. All of our kits come with a short shotgun microphone with indoor and outdoor filters, and a small LED light. |
BeastGrip
Should be compatible with devices with these dimensions
- Width: from 50mm to 92mm
- Height: from 95mm to 196mm
- Thickness: from 5mm up to 18mm
This kit contains the following items
- BeastGrip Pro
- Side-zngle / macro combo-lens
- RØDE VideoMicro (short directional shotgun mic)
- 3.5mm microphone to phone cable (TRS to TRRS)
- Wind sheild for VideoMicro
- Manfroto LED light
Note for phones without a headphone jack (iPhone 7 and later, Moto, Pixel 2 and later, etc.) - you will need a 3.5mm headphone adapter to use the microphone - we do not supply these. (If you purchased an iPhone prior to September 2018, an adaptor was included in your devices box behind the sim eject tool).

Information: The BeastGrip offers fantastic stability and versatility. The width, height, and camera position can all easily be adjusted, while still offering protection and a rock-solid grip for your phone. The combo-lens that come with the kit allows for a variety of creative shots, from close-up macro to wide-angle scenes, all with high-quality optics. There are grips on each side for hand-held shooting, and three anchor points on the base for attaching to a tripod.

Information: The ShoulderPod is a fully modular system, allowing a great level of customisability. Your phone is more 'free-standing' than in a full case-grip like the BeastGrip, and while this means that you cannot use changable lenses with it, the ShoulderPod lets you change your set up on the fly, switching from handheld and phone-only to tripod-mounted with a microphone with ease.
